Abstract	Extensive correspondence (copies) from members of the Maina family (Maria, Nikolaos, Anastasia) between 1911 and 1919, spanning locations such as Smyrna (Asia Minor), Newcastle UK, and Melbourne. The communication includes descriptions of their everyday lives, references to family members' deaths, and financial support. The address in Smyrna was "Nikolaos Maina, odos Merkour 3, Agiou Ιοannou Schinadika, district Smyrna." Agios Ioannis used to be a beautiful Greek suburb, and some of the Greek community leaders used to live there. Another certificate, from Gülbahçe (Γκιουλβαξέ) town hall, certifies that Emmanuil Gkagkas was born (exact date faded) in 1879 and could qualify to go to Mytilene, Greece. Gülbahçe is a neighborhood located in Urla in the province of İzmir (Smyrna). Following the Smyrna Catastrophe (or the exchange of populations), many Greeks from this neighborhood found refuge in Marousi, Melissia, Athens. They later built there the St Georgios church, honoring the same church they used to have in Gülbahçe (Γκιουλβαξέ). In the same folder, which appears to contain other elements relevant to Smyrna, there is a photo of Thomas and Despina Athanasiadi. They are dressed according to Smyrna's fashion norms. Describing the photo: a couple in their 80s, the man in a black and white striped costume with a big bushy mustache, and the woman with her hair covered in a scarf, wrapped up in a heavy wool coat. They are sitting next to each other on big Turkish kilim pillows and rugs, with a sculptured chair beside them.
