Description from source	225 x 175 mm, ink on paper Diary of Israel Saks (b.25/8/1881, Romanovska - d. 11/2/1955, Melbourne), titled 'Memories', written in Yiddish with partial translation to English. Diary is accompanied by an additional typescript translation with annotations by Israel Saks's daughter, Rose. Content is biographical with references to family and to his Russian origins in the German colony of Romanovska , pogroms and persecution, his migration journey from Turkey, then on to Palestine and ultimately arriving in Australia in 1927. Israel Saks was a distinguished communal worker - he took leading roles in many Jewish organisations: Keren Ytayesod, JNF, the first Zionist movements in Melbourne Wefare Society, Bialik School and later Mount Scopus College where three of his grandchildren were amongst the first lot of students.
