One of two folios of recipes (one of savoury preparation, this one, sweet) owned by Rose Seidler, contains typed and handwritten recipes in German and English, 20th century, paper.

This folio is one of two (one of savoury preparations, this one, sweet) kept by Rose Seidler. The collection of recipes enhances our understanding of Rose Seidler’s culinary repertoire and skills. It adds richness to our knowledge of the Seidler’s home life and extra dimension to the interpretation of the kitchen, dining room, and entertaining areas at Rose Seidler House. The majority of recipes in the folios are recorded in German, with many added later in English, reminding us of the Seidler’s Austrian heritage, the transference of tastes and the cultural gulf that many migrant families have to bridge to make Australia their home. Many of the recipes do not follow Jewish culinary observances, but could be adapted to suit religious protocols, as necessary.
This folio, Folio 2, sweet recipes, contains 106 recipes typed in German, plus 17 recipes handwritten in English, and 2 in German. Seven of the nine loose pages are mostly handwritten in English, one is typed in German and another in Polish.
