Papers comprising a journal (of E.J. Reichardt?) containing an account of an overland trip from Hamburg to Paris in 1854, with other entries for 1867 and 1879 before Reichardt's voyage on the 'Caesar Godeffroy' (Captain Decker), and his journal on the ship 19 July to 2 November 1879 to Port Philip (Melbourne). Also included are loose pages of diary entries for a overland trip across Europe 1841-1842, loose letters from 1891 and 1905, and pencil sketch portraits on envelope of three 'Caesar Godeffroy' passengers. Most writing in old German language and script. It is believed these papers were collected and hidden away during World War II because a fear of its German families being persecuted in Australia. |
