It is ordained that as from 1st March 1902, all Chinese people and people of Chinese extraction on the paternal side shall be forbidden to prospect for gold of all sorts and alluvial gold and silver. Such persons shall not be permitted to establish or carry on the trade of prospecting for gold in the State. Persons failing to respect this decision, when discovered, shall be seveely dealt with and shall be liable to arrest and a fine of £50. Lest the Chinese be unaware of this interdict, this proclamation shall be displayed so that all may know. Tremble and obey! Transgress not! A special announcement. Proclaimed 1st March, 1902. |
