| Description from source |
This work is in newspaper format and contains numerous advertisements for tourism, commerce, and other businesses in both Australia and Japan. The contributors to the book include the President of the Osaka Mainichi Newspaper, the then Japanese Prime Minister, Hirota Kōki, former Prime Minister, Okada Keisuke, other members of the cabinet, and prominent Japanese businessmen stationed in Australia. The Australian contributors include the Acting Prime Minister, Earl Page, the New Zealand Prime Minister, E. Ransom, the premiers of all the states, Sir John Latham, and other academics and business representatives. The work was published in a period of optimism about improved relations between the two countries, between the trade delegation to Japan led by Latham and the imposition of prohibitive tariffs on Japanese trade by the Australian Government. Some of the articles, for example by the respective Prime Ministers, are of historical interest. |
