Description from source	In February 1900, two Japanese war ships, the Kongo and the Hiei, set off Yokosuka to their six month voyage across the South Seas and to Australia. They firstly sailed south to Hong Kong and Manila and reached Thursday Island on 9 April, After spending ten days there, the ships visited Townsville, Sydney and Melbourne in Australia before sailing to Fiji. The ships wharfed in each Australian port between one to two weeks. They reached Tokyo on 23 August 1900. The report provides detailed information on the sea route and water depth survey carried out by the Kongo and on facilities at each port. The Japanese residents in Australian ports are mentioned as well. The foldout map of the cruise is comprehensive and folded island profile illustrations on the Philippines, Thursday Island, Morton Bay are inserted in addition to the hydrographic information. Map folds out to 56 x 52 cm in size.
